Effective September 1, 2005 North Carolina residents now have free access to their credit records due to a new federal law under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) A recent amendment to the federal FACT Act (Fair Credit Reporting Act) requires each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to provide you with a free copy of your credit report, at your request, once every 12 months. Be sure to correctly spell www.annualcreditreport.com, or link to it from the  Federal Trade Commission's website to avoid being misdirected to other websites that offer supposedly free reports, but only with the purchase of other products. You may be offered additional products or services while on the authorized website below, you are not required to make a purchase to receive your free annual credit reports. Beware of IMPOSTERS Click the link below for the ONLY authorized online source for you to get a free credit report under federal law. https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp Imposter sites could misuse your personal data, charge, or require a purchase to access your reports.	Be aware of  the signs of Predatory Lending Practices. If any of the following applies to your transaction know your rights. Federal credit law gives you three days to reconsider a signed credit agreement and cancel the deal without penalty. Your "right to rescind" or "right to cancel" is guaranteed by the Truth In Lending Act (read more...) You can rescind for any reason but only if you are using your principal residence as collateral. Do not sign until you have resolved all questions or have reviewed all terms and conditions with someone you trust or a trusted professional not involved with the loan or mortgage.
